212 Caiman
|
|
212 Caiman is the smallest guitar speaker cabinet available. It uses only two 12" Celestion speakers, but it looks like a small version of a four speaker one. Indeed, the size is very compact and also it's not as heavy as it's bigger (older) "brothers", which makes the cabinet easy to handle and it takes less space on stage.
The cabinet includes one Celestion G12T-75 speaker, which has a "classic rock" sound ideal for rock and blues tones. The second speaker is Celestion Vintage 30, with its better presence in mid-high frequencies, allows the player to hear distortion tones very well and the clean tones are then loud and clear.

Using two different speakers allows the cabinet to get wider variety of tones - the frequency spectrum has more harmonics and therefore a player may consider this cabinet as a full size 4x12" cabinet, which makes the 212 Caiman more versatile. The specific enclosure design prevent the bass from being muddy and makes the sound very precise with all articulation well exposed.

The great majority of tube guitar amplifiers produce 100 Watt, therefore the 212 Caiman handles 120 Watt which is enough for most guitar amplifiers manufactured nowadays in the World.
Enclosure is made of only very good quality, thick plywood (birch wood) - ¾". It has, which is unusual, two sound post instead of just one. It reduces internal resonance, that is very common in guitar cabinets - some notes are louder than others, especially in smaller ones. This solution makes the 212 Cabinet sound well balanced in all frequencies.
Carrying handles are fitted at both sides of the housing. Speakers are back loaded and the back wood panel is screw mounted. The cabinet is designed with focus on sealing up the construction and not letting any part to become loose, which makes annoying buzz noises in recordings. |
|
The back board contains two 6,3" jack sockets. To achieve high reliability purposely, there isn't any impedance switch used. This also prevents power amplifier from failure, especially a tube amplifier. Both jack sockets are therefore permanently connected in parallel - it doesn't make a difference which one is used. Using the second socket allows connection to an additional speaker cabinet with the same impedance. It makes this set impedance divided by two. Internal connection are done with a special, thick speaker cable. Each speaker cabinet, when finished, is tested by musicians to check the sound and make corrections, if needed.
